As per Sanatan Dharam the 15day period before Shardiya Navratri is dedicated to ancestors as it is believed that each year thus is their window to visit the Earth Plane. We offer them the Shraadh Tarpan as our respect and an obligation as well. But, how many of us have understood the reasoning behind such austerities and rituals.

Traditions often get questioned by the younger generations and their curiosity once answered leads us to see them observing the traditions not blindly, but in an informed manner.

I am grateful to the social media for such lovely posts that must be shared widely to keep us all informed and educated.

Having mentioned this, many of us have moved away from the ritualistic approach and still observed the tarpan in our own ways by feeding the poor or helping towards a needy cause in memory of our ancestors.
