World Refugee Day!

As Sindhis our elders came as refugees of a land into a land that was never a foreign land.
They came!
They were called refugees!
They were not accepted!
A different language!
A different dialect!
Yet ,
They settled!
With a different culture!
They mingled!

They forsake their language and adapted to the language that was accepted!

They placed their diety in their hearts and publicly worshipped the devtas of the land!

They lost out in the process!
They lost their dialect to learn new ones!
They covered their religious and cultural practices and adopted new ones so they were accepted!

They lost some traditions and gained some!
They lost parts of their cuisine and adopted some!
They lost parts of their attire and donned some!

They lost their houses to become refugees!
They lost their belongings and their assets!
They lost their Motherland! Their Matrabhoomi!
They lost their businesses to rebuild new ones!

They were people of faith and never lost their faith and dharma!
They believed in themselves and made the world believe in them!
They were industrious and they build the India 🇮🇳 that progressed!
Yet, we forget not that they were once the refugees whom the world ignored!

My pranams to those elders who were the reason for preserving our dharma, our culture and traditions.

Every Sindhi with a part of Sindh in our hearts lives on in many a continent to be identified as a proud Sindhi of a rich lineage.
