An ordinary day turned extra ordinary for me as I stepped up the staircase of Faraja Cancer Support Kenya to conduct Reiki level 1 training. This wasn’t my first time at Faraja as I regularly visit the place to provide reiki therapy to the patients and their care givers. This wasn’t my first time conducting a training there yet it was a special day. It was a combination of the fresh batch of girls from the Hawker’s Market Girl’s Center as well people registered from Faraja that included patients, care givers, volunteers and therapists.
This year due to several commitments to various affairs including my own health matters it wasn’t possible to do two camps and other healer friends were busy as well hence we decided to combine the two organizations. We had 22 new girls from HMGC who were joined by their leader Isabella who is a practicing reiki volunteer and often joins my group members of LHSG at Faraja for voluntary therapy work.
It felt humbling as well as elating to be in charge of the training along with my colleagues Shariffa, Deepu and Pratima and was also joined by my daughter a bit later. The students had some lovely experiences with the energy attunement, with self healing post the attunement as well as during healing others in the later half of the class. The HMGC group was a shy lot as these are girls from traumatized backgrounds and each year we see them come as hesitant, nervous girls that leave as confident, bold, vocationally trained girls when they graduate after 12 months. Some of the students had very valid, smart questions and thankfully I managed to answer al their questions to satisfaction.
This unconditional gratifying seva felt very fulfilling as in my heart I know how much it will help the cancer patients and survivors with self healing and of course the HMGC stand to gain a lot from self healing. Once these girls start attending Faraja as volunteers like other Lotus Healing Seva Group members they shall feel empowered and confident integrating with other members of the society.
