Pitru Paksh
A fortnight dedicated to them
The ones that led to our being
A period of mere days fifteen
Comes once a year each year
The ancestors of the family line
The ancestors of cultural incline
All those that touched our lives
Our folks, friends and Gurus divine
One day we shall meet them again
Those that left here prior to us
For now we offer our homages
By doing the tarpan in remembrances
Their Shraaddh we mark with offerings
And ritualistic havans and musings
The Pitrupaksha is here for those elders
Who left vacuum around our borders
We call upon their blessed visitings
In whichever form as earthly sightings
The crows bring symbolic messages
And cows pass on the needed blessings
The Brahman Devta forms representation
Of the ancestors from Godly dwellings
Papa’s favorite kheer prepared & served
Grandma’s memory rekindled & observed
In reverence the fortnight is observed
Rekindled memories of their fragrance
Those that passed on to the other shore
Our loved Pitrus missed by us to the core
