When I Die
When I die my soul shall fly
Fly it will, to freedom it’ll soar high
But you won’t see it
Even if you look up in the sky
Sikiladi
Let it go, for you can’t hold it
I couldn’t hold it any longer you see
It needed it’s liberty
Sikiladi
It wanted to be away from the diseased me
Yet, for twelve days it’ll watch over thee
When I die don’t cry over me
For I shall enjoy being free
And just being Me
You learn to live without me
Sikiladi
Life will be easier than it seems
I won’t be there with my rules
I won’t be there with restrictions
You shall be free too to live your way
Sikiladi
My freedom will make you free
And you shall be the master of your glee
For I chose to set myself bondage free
When I die don’t be so sad
Celebrate in mind the life that I had
Don’t waste your energy on other people
Sikiladi
But please do follow my last rituals
Of handing me over to the fire pure
The fire that will cremate to release my soul
The pandit might guide you to some chores
Sikiladi
They might be few but seem like scores
Fulfill them if you can, but it’s not a must
For I know you might find him unjust
I will not be annoyed, for I’ll be gone
When I die I wish my eyes to see
Donate them to the Lions Eye Bank
The gift of sight shall be precious
Sikiladi
And you know it from your grandpa’s blindness
Feed the Brahman whenever you feel like
But feed the poor and prayerful everyday
Sikiladi
Forget not the bread for the crows
And the millet grains to my little birds
They come to bless you each day
As they nibble on the bites of their meal
When I die don’t call a crowd
They shall come themselves if they wish
You may not want condolence prayers
You may not want to throw a feast
Sikiladi
I couldn’t be bothered to the least
I have no expectations from anyone
I leave my Bhagwad Geeta as a legacy
Sikiladi
Try reading it to understand its intricacies
It will give you support and guide you
To the righteous path for a better You
I wish you well as I move away
To the Almighty’s flute I shall sway away
Sikiladi
