I Love My Country
By Sikiladi

I love my country! I simply love it!
I live in the country that’s my pride
And then…. I pause …I wonder
Is this really called a pride?
Where streetlights never do suffice
There are dark dreary monsters every where
Emerging suddenly, hidden from sight
Pouncing on motorists on the dark nights
They even peck away mirrors of cars….
Boldly, declaredly in broad daylight
They narrate tales of amusement….
On rocky, rollie, potholed tarmac….
That floats away, going off sight
Just one harsh rain is usually enough
The drainage system stands to cry
The city council shamelessly proud
Of misused funds and fishy contracts
And! I call this to be my pride
Really? Is it a place to live and thrive?
Yet, I love this place as my own abode
I love my country! I simply love it!
