Visiting the Old Age Home : (A healer’s dairy)

Home for Aged in Parklands (From the archives)

On Thursday 19th September a large group of us (15) from our LHSG  went to visit an old persons home in Parklands, Nairobi.

When we arrived the residents were sitting outside in the court yard. We were greeted by Nargis, from our group, who spends a great deal of time at the home helping the residents. She does their haircuts and helps them to exercise as a voluntary Sewa. They obviously really love her too! Nargis explained who we were and told them a little bit about Reiki, which many of them had heard about.

…..  gratitude and thanks for all those who gave their time love and reiki it was truly a wonderful experience for me too i ws touched with all the compassion and love they gave all the seniors they all were so happy more happy than i have seen them in quiet a while and may you all be blessed for the wonderful sewa! and am proud to be a member of lhsg god bless you all

It was indeed a great opportunity given to us by Nargis. I was touched deeply. Though I knew the residents of the Home were being well looked after and fed yet their lonely eyes spoke what the words fail to utter. I cried tears not from eyes, but from my heart that day.
It was a very humbling experience and they were all very happy at receiving the Reiki energy. Shantiben, whom I gave healing seemed to be in lot of pain in her left arm and couldn’t even lift it. She was all smiles after the healing and said her hand felt much better. She was so willing to speak to anyone and I felt great conversing with her despite my failure to communicate well in Gujrati. She showed me her wedding ring which had her name inscribed on it. That made me feel, there is a lot she wants to share, her past memories, her happy memories, may be her children but probably there is no one to listen to her tales.
She had poor eyesight and required new glasses. Her spectacles seemed all smudgy and very old and worn out. My heart went out to that quiet feeble woman.
I also gave Reiki to another gentleman who did not want me to touch him anywhere and then Nargis told me to give him distant reiki and I did that. He seemed quite oblivious of what we were doing and kept looking here and there strangely.
Since It was the first day of the Hindu Month of Shraadh when we remember and honour our ancestors, I dedicated the Sewa of the day to my ancestors.

  1. This heartwarming account of visiting an old persons home reflects a beautiful act of compassion and love. The volunteers’ efforts to bring joy and healing to the residents are truly commendable. It’s touching to see how their presence and Reiki energy brought happiness to the seniors. This experience reminds us of the significance of companionship and care for the elderly, who often long for someone to listen to their stories and memories. Overall, this touching visit highlights the power of empathy and the importance of serving others selflessly💖
